Miss Hastings Scholarship Program Area

The Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition is a closed program. A candidate must live, work full-time, or attend school within Hastings School District 200 or be a graduate of its high school and live in the state of Minnesota to be eligible to compete. Please note: MHSP is still a fledgling program. Our first priority is to recruit candidates from the Hastings School District. Only when absolutely necessary will we recruit candidates outside School District 200 to meet the required minimum number of candidates to crown a new titleholder.

Residency Requirements

  • Candidates must have established the above residency for a minimum of thirty (30) days before competing in the Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition. Residency is the primary address where you physically live. Verification of residency includes a driver's license, automobile registration, property mortgage, a lease in your name, or a tax document.

  • If recruited from outside the Hastings School District, candidates must be Minnesota residents within a ninety-minute drive from McNamara Stadium in central Hastings as indicated by a map application (Google Maps, Waze, Mapquest).

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Other Requirements

  • Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition Age Requirements

    • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age as of July 31st in the calendar year of the state competition in which she competes.

    • Must not be older than twenty-five (25) years of age on December 31st in the calendar year of the state competition in which she competes.

    • Young women born between January 1, 1997, and July 31, 2004, meet the age requirements to enter the 2021 Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition.

    • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent by July 31st in the calendar year of the state competition in which she competes.

    • Young women who earn their high school diploma by July 31, 2022, meet the high school graduation requirement to enter the 2021 Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition.

  • Other Requirements Applicable to All Candidates

    • Female, not married, and have never had any children.

    • ​​​Meet character criteria as set forth by MAO.

    • Meet time commitment responsibilities as set forth by the Miss Hastings Scholarship Program and the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Organization to faithfully represent and serve the Hastings area.

    • Attend state competition orientation, typically in April, and state competition week in mid-to-late June during your service year.

    • Should you win the Miss Minnesota 2022 title, you must:

      • Have the ability to take a six-month leave of absence from your job and/or take off the fall semester from school. Frequent appearances and travel make this a necessity.

      • Travel to attend Miss America Competition orientation in August during Miss America's Outstanding Teen Competition week in Orlando.

      • Travel to the Miss America Competition in December, which is typically a two-week trip.  

    • These requirements are consistent with those established for Miss candidates of the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Program.

Social Impact Initiative Requirements 

  • Each candidate is required to choose the Social Impact Initiative (SII), which is the cause of her choice to advocate as a candidate and during her year of service as Miss Hastings.

  • She will name her SII, create a plan to advocate it, and write a proposal for it (Social Impact Statement) to present to our judge panel.

  • Each candidate may raise the funds for her contribution through a website provided to her by Miss America Organization with cash donations/gifts or the sale of items she has created specifically to promote her Social Impact Initiative.

Application Process and Fee Requirements

  • Each candidate is required to register with the Miss America Organization and pay a one-time $35 membership fee, which is good for the entire  competition season (approximately July through June). Your membership gives exclusive access to members-only benefits including:

    • Access to compete in local Miss/Teen Competitions (based on age eligibility)

    • A chance to win a $1,000 scholarship - one in each state + D.C.

    • Access to our exclusive Professional Development Series with experts in areas such as:

      • Social Media training

      • Public speaking

      • Media/Press training

      • Advocacy & Fundraising

      • Financial literacy

    • Health & Wellness / Peak Performance training

    • Resume building

    • Career opportunities and networking events

    • Exclusive Miss America merchandise and discounts

  • A Miss Minnesota representative will confirm your registration by email. Please watch your inbox! The email you'll receive has the link to register for the Miss Hastings Scholarship Competition.

  • The registration fee for each competition is $75. fees go to the Miss America Foundation, Miss America's 501(c)3 organization that pays candidate scholarships, and the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Organization.

    • Please note: the Miss Hastings Scholarship Program will provide a fundraising event to help candidates pay for the membership and registration fees!

  • The local executive director will send the candidate agreement to you when your registration is complete.

  • Candidates are strongly encouraged to craft their resume and Social Impact Statement right away.

  • Candidates will choose their competition number when their resume, Social Impact Statement, and candidate agreement are completed and approved by the local executive director.
